Our themes over the next few weeks are Spring and All about me. We will be using traditional stories such as ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, ‘The Ugly Duckling’ and The Enormous Turnip’ to learn more about how stories are structured and as a starting point to learn about what is happening in the world around us at this time of year to plants, animals and the weather.
The children will also be using information books to find out more about different life processes and how we grow and change. In our discussions we will be trying to ask and answer ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions to find out more.
In our Mathematics work we will be securing reading, writing and ordering numbers to 20 and beyond, adding and subtracting using amounts to 20 using objects and number lines and counting in groups of 2, 5 and 10. We will be using these skills to buy and sell flowers and other things in our shop.
These are the main focuses of our next two themes but as with all we do we will continue to build on all our skills as we work and play.
You could continue to support your child at home by listening to them read regularly, helping them learn all their sounds, reading, writing and ordering numbers and counting in 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.
