Many hands make light work!
As you all (hopefully!) know by now CHASA stands for Crayke Home and School Association and is Crayke School’s PTA. We organise events throughout the year to raise money in order to provide events, experiences and equipment for the pupils outside of the normal curriculum. Events such as Cinema Nights, the Disco, Ice Cream Friday, Bake Offs and the Summer Fair, as well as events for grown ups, all go towards paying for enrichment events such as trips to the Pantomime, Visiting Theatre Companies, Sports and Playground equipment, Laptops in school, Art, Music and Science weeks and much more.
Currently we (Heather Ellerker and Penny Agar) share the role of Chair and are joined on the committee by Paula Ritchie (Treasurer) and Christine Waite (Secretary). We are also helped by Year Group Representatives who help at events, sell tickets and organise stalls at the Summer Fair. Sharing the role of Chair has proven to make the role easier by sharing tasks to make events happen.
Because Penny’s son Charlie in Year 6 will leave school this summer, Penny will be leaving CHASA and we therefore need to recruit a replacement joint Chair person.
The role involves organising and planning monthly meetings to decide upon both fundraising activities and enrichment events. We hold these meetings at school or or in the pub and they last about an hour. There are approx. 4-6 events for children throughout the year, an event for parents and carers (last year it was the popular Quiz and Curry Night) with the grand finale being the Summer Fair which raised over £2000 in 2015.
If you feel you could spare approximately 2 hours (may vary 🙂 a week to fulfil this rewarding role to make a difference for the pupils of Crayke school please let us know.
You can catch Heather at school pick up or call Penny on 07711 506070 – we would love to hear from you.
