Climate Action Plan

At Crayke CE Primary School, we recognise our responsibility as a caring and compassionate community to protect the environment for current and future generations. As a smaller, close-knit Church of England Primary School, our Climate Action Plan reflects our commitment to living out our Christian values and nurturing confident, resilient learners who are aware of their role in an ever-changing world.  Our plan can be viewed in full by clicking on the image below:

Our Commitment to Climate Action

Our Climate Action Plan has been developed collaboratively with school leaders and the school council, ensuring that both staff and children have a voice in shaping our approach. This plan has also been shared with our governors, demonstrating our whole-school dedication to supporting environmental initiatives.

We are committed to:

  • Reducing our environmental impact through practical steps across the school site and in daily routines.
  • Educating our children about climate change and sustainability, fostering a sense of determination to make a positive difference.
  • Engaging our community including parents, carers and local partners, to work together in protecting our planet.
  • Embedding sustainability into our curriculum and school life, so that respect for the environment is a natural part of our ethos.

How Our Vision and Values Guide Our Climate Action

Our vision to “Follow your pathway and we grow together with confidence” inspires us to grow compassionate and confident learners who understand the importance of caring for God’s creation.

  • Respect: We show respect by valuing our natural environment and taking care of our school grounds, including our playgrounds and playing fields.
  • Friendship: We extend friendship beyond our school community by encouraging kindness and support for global environmental efforts.
  • Forgiveness: We recognise that mistakes happen but embrace forgiveness by continuously striving to improve our environmental practices.
  • Determination: We are determined to make a lasting impact by persevering with sustainable actions, no matter how small, knowing that every effort counts.

Actions and Initiatives

Some of the key actions we are taking include:

  • Energy Efficiency: Implementing energy-saving measures in classrooms and communal areas.
  • Waste Reduction: Promoting recycling and reducing single-use plastics throughout the school.
  • Outdoor Learning: Using our extensive outdoor grounds to teach children about biodiversity and the importance of nature.
  • Pupil Leadership: Empowering our School Council to lead eco-friendly projects and raise awareness among their peers.
  • Community Engagement: Partnering with local organisations and churches, such as St Cuthbert’s, to support environmental stewardship.

How You Can Get Involved

We encourage all members of our school community to join us in this vital work:

  • Support your child’s learning about climate action at home.
  • Participate in school-led environmental events and initiatives.
  • Share ideas and feedback with our school council or leadership team.
