New raised beds and outdoor classroom
Welcome to the new season. Spring always feels like the most optimistic time of year, when we are all full of hope for a long hot summer and everything growing well. The weather is about to warm up and that means the ground will be ready for seeds, then nature’s magic will begin and up will come the green shoots and then the lovely flowers, fresh vegetables and herbs we love to grow.
This year we will hold gardening club on Saturday afternoons from 2.30pm till 3.45pm. Everyone is welcome but if you are under 8 please come with an adult.
These are the dates:
Dates 2013 | Theme | Activities |
Sat 27th April | Free taster session | Planning planting & potting |
Sat 4th May | War-time garden | Digging for victory! |
Sat 18th May | Insects and bugs | Who’s in the hotel? |
Sat 1st June | Home Grown revolution | New plants for the future |
Sat 15th June | Speaker/visit | TBA |
Sat 29th June | Victorian cut flowers | Shape, colour and size? |
Sat 13th July | Let’s eat! | Tasting time |
The school is building new raised beds and an outdoor classroom. This means we will have somewhere to work in the wet weather and more space for growing. It does mean we will need some new members so if you are keen on green and being out in all weathers, then please come to the free taster session in the new outdoor classroom and help to make our planting plans and start potting for the season.
We would love some new members. It really is good value; only £6 per child or £10 for an adult, for the whole year. There are lots of plants to take home and grow on and we have been very successful in the geranium competition at Huby and Sutton Show. We even get to eat our produce and bake unusual cakes such as chocolate and basil! Last year we also tasted home-made ice-cream and our favourite was ‘Crayke strawberry’. It’s informal and fun and sometimes the sun even shines! There’s lots of planting to do so join us and get your hands in the compost. More details from Liz 824163
