As you will undoubtedly know, World Book Day is taking place on Thursday 3rd March. However, just to be a little different, Crayke School’s World Book Day will take place on Friday 4th March due to other commitments.
We have decided that the theme this year will be favourite book characters. It would be great if the children could dress up as a character from a favourite book (don’t panic if you’re not the most confident costume designer – a token gesture towards the character would be sufficient, e.g. hat, bag, top, etc. However, if this is your forte, feel free to go completely over the top!
We would like the children to bring their favourite book to school (featuring the character) on the Friday. There will be opportunities to share this book between classes, e.g. older children reading to Reception. In class, activities based around their favourite characters will vary from creating a new illustration for the book or writing a character profile etc.
In addition, we will also be holding an extreme reading competition. The aforementioned photographic competition is for the most obscure and entertaining place that the children can be caught and photographed reading. There will be ample time for the children to enter their photos as the competition won’t be judged until after the Easter holidays (Thursday 14th April). If your child would like to enter a photograph this could be either printed off or emailed to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. If possible, could you also include information about where and when the photographic was taken. There will be prizes for the most adventurous pictures. Obviously, we encourage you to keep safe (I wouldn’t recommend reading in the jaws of a crocodile!) but we are really looking forward to seeing who in school has such a passion for reading that they have to do it anywhere and everywhere!
We really look forward to sharing the books that the children bring in and seeing their extreme reading photographs.
