Apple and Beech Class: Brand new ‘Read to Me’ books

We are very grateful to CHASA for enabling us to purchase some carefully selected books from the Blue House Bookshop in York for children in Apple and Beech class.
These ‘read to me’ books are available for children to browse and select in their classroom, so that they can bring them home to share with an adult. The adult’s role is to read the story to the child and help to develop a love of stories and language. You can discuss the meaning of unfamiliar words and enjoy talking about what you have read. These discussions are vital for helping to develop their vocabulary, conversational skills and a lifelong love of books.
Whilst children are developing their phonics skills, they will also continue to bring their weekly phonics book home to read independently, with your role as an enthusiastic audience to fill your child with praise, making the experience a pleasure rather than a chore.
We hope that you and your child will enjoy this new approach to reading, taking the stress and pressure out of it and turning it into a positive experience for everyone involved. Please ask your child’s class teacher if you have any questions about supporting your child with reading. There will also be a series of online video guides to phonics and early reading for parents and carers, beginning next week. More information to follow.
Many thanks for your continued support,
Louise Rayner
